"It seems certain that this pirated edition was published on 24 Sep. 1787, (advertisement for this edition appeared in the Belfast News-letter for Tuesday 25 Sep. 1787) and I have accordingly placed it before the 1787 London edition, which was advertised in May 1787, but not published till November, or early December, 1787" (J. W. Egerer: 'A bibliography of Robert Burns').
