The growth of Chinese electronics firms: globalization and organizations
(eBook)
Does globalization benefit the growth of Indigenous firms in developing countries? Existing research has recognized that growth depends on technology diffusion from developed to developing countries through international economic activities such as trade and investment. However, the reality is not so straightforward. Indigenous Chinese firms have achieved rapid growth even without complete technology diffusion. The Growth of Chinese Electronics Firms outlines the way firms grow in China at an organizational level. Kimura uses China's electronics industry as a case study for measuring the fast-growing manufacturing sector and provides a way to systematically understand the organizational form of Indigenous firms in comparison to that of foreign firms in the Chinese market. Although Chinese electronics firms have faced the technology gap between Indigenous and foreign firms, they have attained growth by using external technology of specialized firms and internal knowledge of the domestic market as local firms in order to offset the gap. This book provides an optimal choice of the organizational form of Indigenous firms, showing that the organization can be diversified depending on three factors: technology gap, external technology, and internal knowledge.
