The Secret Garden
(eBook)
Published in 1911, The Secret Garden is Frances Hodgson Burnett's most famous work. Telling the story of a young girl named Mary Lennox, her sickly cousin Colin and her persistence in finding a hidden garden from family lore, the novel is now considered a classic in English juvenile fiction. This particular volume is a first edition of the work. Historians believe Burnett's interest in Mary Baker Eddy's Christian Science theories may have been a significant influence on the classic work. Burnett uses the garden as a central theme and symbol throughout the novel in order to comment on what she believed was the healing power inherent in living things.
